One kilometre is a useful search radius, not a rule for how far a gym should be. Measure the actual route and the time it adds to your day. Then check that the gym is open when you need it and has the facilities and environment you want.

This guide does not know your location or identify gyms within your personal one-kilometre radius. It gives you a method to build and check that shortlist. The closest map pin is not always the easiest front door to reach.

Measure the route, not just the circle

  1. Choose your true starting point: your building entrance, office exit or college gate.
  2. Find nearby gym listings, then open directions to each actual entrance.
  3. Select the transport mode you will use. A driving route and walking route can be very different.
  4. Check crossings, one-way roads, railway lines, gates, footpaths and parking access.
  5. Check the return trip at the time you would finish, including lighting and transport availability.

A map radius measures straight-line distance. Your usable route may be longer because there is no crossing or public entrance where you expect one. Do not cross unsafe roads or restricted property to preserve a one-kilometre limit.

Compare added travel time

Illustrative example, not measured local data: Gym A is 500 metres away in a straight line but requires a detour to a crossing. Gym B is 1.5 kilometres from home but lies beside your normal office route. Gym B might add less travel to a workday even though it is farther from home.

That does not make Gym B better on weekends. Compare the days you will actually use each route. There is no universal 10- or 15-minute commute limit; choose an amount of extra travel you can afford in your available workout slot.

Record for each gymWhat to check
Outbound and return journeyActual entrance, transport mode, crossings and finish-time conditions.
Extra time, not total commuteThe detour added to a trip you already make, plus parking or changing time where relevant.
Usable opening hoursWhether you can finish before closing, not merely arrive before it.
Minimum gym fitRequired equipment, cleanliness, accessibility, staff availability and personal comfort.
Total payable accessJoining charges, pack commitment, permitted tier and separately charged services.

Choose the closest gym that meets your minimum standard. If nearby options fail on timing, accessibility or equipment, widen the radius a little or search beside another regular destination. Avoid paying for a nearer gym that cannot support the workout you intend to do.

Photos help you form questions but do not establish current crowding, equipment condition or staff conduct. Ask to look around at your intended time, and clarify whether any workout trial is paid. The joining checklist provides a useful visit script.

Browse the right city

Start in the Fit Square gym directory or app and choose your relevant city or locality. Fit Square currently serves Bengaluru, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane; a city listing is not proof that a partner gym is within one kilometre of you.

If you choose Fit Square access, it is prepaid from 30 sessions, with no session expiry. It is not a single-workout trial purchase. Confirm tier compatibility and venue facilities before buying.
